Former Dolphins executive advocates for teams to draft QBs yearly

Ever since the Miami Dolphins relieved Mike Tannenbaum of his duties as the head honcho in the Dolphins front office, Tannenbaum has continued to phase himself into more and more media coverage — often offering his input and point of view on topical news and team transactions.

But his latest input? It is a bit of a head scratcher, to say the least. Not because Tannenbaum’s recommendation is anything crazy — far from it. But rather because Tannenbaum couldn’t have been bothered to follow his own advice while running the show in Miami.

“Draft a quarterback every year!”

Quick — how many quarterbacks did Mike Tannenbaum draft during the four seasons in which he served as Miami’s Executive Vice President of Football Operations?

The answer? One. One quarterback in four years of drafts — and that was Western Kentucky QB Brandon Doughty, who was selected with the 223rd overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. Doughty never logged a formal snap with the Dolphins. And to make matters worse, the Dolphins hadn’t drafted a quarterback in the 2013 and 2014 NFL Drafts either — the two seasons in between when Miami drafted QB Ryan Tannehill with a top-10 overall pick and Mike Tannenbaum joined the Dolphins organization.

So which is it? Draft a quarterback every year or neglect the position for years on end? Tannenbaum would advise you to do one — but actually do the opposite himself when the cards are down.
