Former Dolphins DE Robert Quinn breaks hand at Cowboys practice

The Miami Dolphins moved on from veteran defensive end Robert Quinn this offseason as a part of their youth movement to set the team up for future success. Miami’s strategy in moving Quinn went a bit against the grain, as the team paid Quinn a seven figure roster bonus in the first few days of the NFL’s 2019 league calendar as a strategy to pay down his payroll and make him more attractive to potential trade partners.

And after some flirtation, the Dolphins indeed found a trade partner for Quinn in the Dallas Cowboys. And while the Dolphins got a negligible return for Quinn — it was something.

Quinn hasn’t even made it through training camp with his new team and he’s already battling injuries, something that has dogged Quinn for the last few years of his NFL career. It was announced yesterday that Quinn suffered a broken left hand at training camp practice and will require surgery to repair the injury.

The news isn’t all bad for the Cowboys, however. The team expects Robert Quinn to be ready for the season opener despite the pending medical procedure — which would also make Quinn also available for the Cowboys’ Week 3 contest against the Miami Dolphins.
