A former Italian sporting director has expressed his amazement that Liverpool didn’t sign a particular midfielder in the summer.
The Reds were extensively linked with a host of midfielders throughout the summer, following the departure of Gini Wijnaldum on a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.
In the end, Jurgen Klopp opted not to bring in any senior midfielders, with centre-back Ibrahima Konate the only first-team addition in the summer.

Walter Sabatini, who has been a director at Lazio, Roma and Sampdoria, among a host of others, says he’s surprised the Reds didn’t sign Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa.
Anguissa left Fulham following their relegation from the Premier League to join Napoli on loan with an option to buy in the summer.
There are reports that the deal could be made permanent at the end of the season, with a £12m fee doing the rounds.
Sabatini says he is “amazed” Liverpool did not make a move to sign Anguissa when the transfer window was open.
“I don’t understand how [anyone in] the Premier League didn’t notice [Anguissa],” Sabatini told CalcioNapoli24.
“I am amazed that the two Manchester teams, Chelsea and Liverpool did not arrive on a Fulham player.”
