Former Derby County star makes Nottingham Forest promotion prediction

Nottingham Forest are targeting automatic promotion to the Premier League, but one pundit thinks that goal is out of reach.

The Reds are currently in fourth place in the Sky Bet Championship table, and one point adrift of second-placed Leeds United who occupy the final automatic promotion spot.

Sabri Lamouchi’s side claimed a memorable 2-0 win over Marcelo Bielsa’s side at the weekend, and take on Charlton Athletic this evening where they could climb into the top two places in the table.

West Bromwich Albion are currently leading the division, while Fulham, Brentford and Preston North End make up the rest of the top six.

Former Derby County striker Darren Bent has predicted where he thinks Forest will finish in the Championship this season.

Bent reckons that the automatic promotion places are just out of reach, and has predicted a fifth-place finish for the Reds this term.

“Beating Leeds on Saturday was a big moment, especially because it underlined the importance of keeping Joe Worrall away from bigger clubs last month,” Bent told The Times.

“The England Under-21 defender is strong, decisive and has proved to be a leader. He returned from a loan spell at Rangers last season more polished and mature.

“Those are the kind of attributes that have made him key to Sabri Lamouchi’s team.

“Ben Watson has been around the block and Lewis Grabban has 16 goals — as many as he managed last season — but the top two looks just out of their reach.”
