Former Derby County man 'would rather watch' Nottingham Forest in Premier League

Robbie Savage says he would "rather watch" Nottingham Forest in the Premier League than Huddersfield Town, Fulham or Bournemouth.

The former Derby County man waded into the controversial debate on a so-called lack of 'big' clubs in the top-flight.

Forest have been out of the Premier League since 1999, joined by fellow heavyweights of English football in the Championship by Leeds United, Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby.

In that time Bournemouth, Fulham and Huddersfield Town, who have just been relegated after two seasons in the top flight, have achieved promotion to the Premier League.

The trio have three top flight trophies and an FA Cup to their name, all won by Huddersfield.

And Savage says he would rather watch Forest or Leeds, Villa and Wednesday face off against the aforementioned clubs.

Speaking on the BBC's 606 phone-in, he said: "As a fan of football, which I am, and I've got no affinity to Huddersfield, Fulham and Bournemouth, the three teams I chose.

"Leeds United, Aston Villa, Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday - for me I would rather watch those teams if they were in the Premier League than the three teams I've mentioned.

"Not because they're bigger clubs, because what is a big club? History, fanbase, trophies - that's a different matter.

"It's just my opinion that if I am turning on the TV to watch Bournemouth v Manchester United I would every day of the week, and it's just my opinion, watch Leeds United v Manchester United.

"Fact."

When pressed by a Bournemouth fan who rang up in defence of his side, Savage added: "My opinion as a fan of football, which I am, I would rather watch Aston Villa, Leeds United, even to a point Nottingham Forest or Sheffield Wednesday in the Premier League than Huddersfield, Bournemouth or Fulham.

"It's my opinion."
