Former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates has used Twitter for some Christmas-themed trolling of US President Donald Trump.
Ms Yates, a rare Twitter user, responded to Mr Trump’s Twitter attack on FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe as the bureau’s investigation into alleged collusion between Mr Trump’s campaign team and Russian officials continues.
She warned Secret Service to “be on the lookout for three ghosts” at the President’s Mar-a-Lago golf club in Florida - a reference to the classic A Christmas Carol story.
Mr Trump has been suggesting via Twitter that Mr McCabe retire, and that agents are still loyal to former Director James Comey, who was sacked in May.
He also said that Mr McCabe used his government email account to endorse Hillary Clinton’s campaign during the 2016 US election and brought up the Deputy Director’s wife as someone who received “all this money” from an associate of Ms Clinton.
It was also revealed that texts sent between agents on special prosecutor Robert Mueller's team had sent text messages amongst themselves calling Mr Trump an "idiot."
Ms Yates, who was also fired by the President, appeared to take issue with the President’s public attack.
The former Department of Justice official was let go over her opposition to Mr Trump’s travel ban and just days after she warned the White House about former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was recently indicted in the FBI investigation.
Recently, the President was parodied on the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live as Scrooge.
In the original, Scrooge is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
In the skit, the President is visited by the ghosts of “witnesses flipped,” former Entertainment Tonight host Billy Bush who brought up the infamous tape of Mr Trump speaking about grabbing women by the genitals, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the ghost of his future - Hillary Clinton.
Mr Flynn and former campaign aide George Papadopoulos have pleaded guilty in the Russia investigation for lying to the FBI about their contacts with Russian officials. Former campaign manager Paul Manafort and deputy Rick Gates were also indicted but on unrelated financial crimes.
