Former Cubs skipper Joe Maddon’s Wrigleyville restaurant closes 7 months after opening for business

Former Cubs skipper Joe Maddon’s restaurant — Maddon’s Post — located down the block from Wrigley Field, closed Monday just seven months after it opened for business in May.

It’s not a huge surprise, considering the Cubs announced in September they were not renewing Maddon’s contract. Weeks later Maddon accepted a position managing the Los Angeles Angels.

However, the eatery — which was operated by Levy Restaurants — had been set to participate in Chicago Restaurant week next month.

The building that housed the restaurant at Waveland Avenue and Clark Street is owned by Hickory Street Capital, a real estate investment firm owned by the Ricketts family (which also owns the Cubs).

Hickory Street and Levy issued a news release that blamed the shuttering on Maddon’s exit, as well as the departure of his partner, acclaimed chef and Spiaggia founder Tony Mantuano, who left Chicago to live in Italy.

“The decision was based on their departure from Chicago as they were the spirit of the concept,” the news release stated.

The closing was first reported in Eater Chicago.

The news release offered this quote from Maddon: “While saddened to see the restaurant end its run, we are grateful to all who walked through our doors and savored the experience.”

The restaurant’s website on Monday displayed only a brief message on its main page: “With gratitude...To our family, friends and Chicago, we’ve enjoyed our run and we are grateful to all who walked through our doors to celebrate good times.”
