Former Crystal Palace star says Arsenal transfer rumours not the reason for Wilfried Zaha's form

Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison has explained why he feels that his old side are not getting the best out of Wilfried Zaha this season.

The 26-year-old had been enjoying a second coming at Palace until this season after starring for the club as a teenager before leaving to join Manchester United in 2013.

Zaha failed to make the most of his move to Old Trafford and had to go out on loan to the likes of Palace and Cardiff City before he eventually ended up back at Selhurst Park permanently in 2015.

The Ivory Coast international has since gone on to improve his reputation significantly in the last four years, something which led to rumours about a move to Arsenal in the summer, and an uncertain future in south London.

Morrison feels that the summer exit talk has had an effect on Zaha's form this season, with the former England under-21s star having failed to have find the back of the net prior to Palace's clash against Man City this evening.

However, he believes that it's a positional change rather than the transfer talk which has hindered Zaha the most.

"He is in a different role. Whatever happened at the start of the season would have turned his head. He wants to go and play for one of those top four teams and I think he is good enough," Morrison told Sky Sports.

"He has been playing on the right but he prefers to play on the left and cut inside and make things happen.

"It's a different role for him and he has been doing a lot of tracking back which is something he has needed to improve on.

"He will want to add some goals and assists. He will always be their special player and it's whether they will hold onto him until January."
