With the struggles the Raiders have had rushing the passer this season, they are desperate to find help wherever they can get it. When former Cowboys defensive lineman David Irving’s suspension was lifted after two years out of the league, they pounced, signing him to their practice squad.
That was October 20 and every week since then, fans and media have been wondering if and when he would see the field. That time could be this Sunday against the Broncos.
The Raiders have elevated Irving from the practice squad along with tackle Jaryd Jones-Smith.
This elevation does not guarantee he will be on the active roster Sunday. After all, this is the second time Irving has been elevated and last time he ended up being inactive. That previous time was week 7 against the Buccaneers when Carl Nassib was dealing with a toe injury. Nassib was cleared to play and Irving was inactive.
While Irving has put up 11 sacks in his last 13 games, his last sack was on October 21, 2018. And those 13 games date back to 2016. So, yeah, it’s been a while. That’s how desperate the Raiders are to find a spark. Irving is still just 27 years old, so if he can return to form, he may just provide that spark. Worth a shot.
