Former Covid-19 patient treated on same ICU as Boris Johnson describes how he thought he would die

A software developer who spent a week in the same intensive care unit as Boris Johnson has described the moment he thought he was going to die.

Dave Hunt, 38, was taken to St Thomas' hospital in central London after struggling to breathe due to Covid-19, Sky News reported.

After finding out that he was going to be put on a ventilator, Mr Hunt said he called his brother and told him his computer password and where to find his will.

"For me, that was it," he said. "I was like, I really thought..."

"So I called my brother, gave him my password, told him where my will was."

Two days later, Mr Hunt woke up with "a fifteen inch hosepipe" in his mouth.

"Intensive care is not a fun place to be, you see people die - it's absolutely horrible", he told Sky News.

"I sell software for a living, I'm not a nurse or a doctor. You see people getting wheeled out wheeled in... I just wanted to get out of that place."

Mr Hunt described the experience of being disconnected from the ventilator.

"They removed the tube which was a horrendous experience. I still couldn't talk my throat was swollen I still had a feeding tube in my nose. Ten tubes coming out of my neck through the main injection there."

Despite how unpleasant the experience was, he said he "took his hat off" to the doctors who saved his life.

"Boris Johnson will be in good care," he said.

"I take my hat off to all of them because without them I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be here, almost certainly."
