Former Corrie star stunned by kindness of 'guardian angel' who helped him in Aldi

A former Coronation Street star was stunned by the kind gesture from a fellow shopper at Aldi, who he is calling his "guardian angel".

Actor Marcquelle Ward has spoken of how a woman behind him in the queue at Aldi stepped forward to pay for half of his shopping when he faced a hurdle using Apple Pay at the till.

The actor, who played Mitch on Corrie and has won critical acclaim in West End musical Cats, spoke to the MEN about the lovely act of kindness by a woman known only as "Lisa".

He said: "She really just made my day and gave me faith in humanity. I want her to be recognised because it was so kind of her."

He took to Facebook to share the act of kindness with his friends, writing: "Nicest thing that's ever happened to me shopping just happened to me this morning.

"So I was in my local Aldi and when I got to the till after everything had been scanned I realised I didn't have my wallet.

"I didn't panic because I had my phone which has got Apple Pay on right?

"But the amount of shopping was over the tap limit in one go so I asked if we could pay it in half. So that's pay up to the limit and then pay again the rest.

"So as the guy behind the till and I were taking stuff off the first part of the bill then this woman comes forward.

"She was like 'I'll pay it" and I was like "I have got the money, I can just split the shopping up to pay on my card." She was like: "Don't worry about it, I will just pay it"."

"Lisa" acted as a "guardian angel" for the actor in Aldi (MEN)

Marcquelle, who many will remember from his time on ITV's musical drama Britannia High, asked for the woman's bank details in order to pay her back, but Lisa wouldn't let him.

He continued: "She was like it's fine, don't worry, just pay it forward." I was like what's your social media accounts, anything, at least give me your name.

"She was called Lisa, short hair with an orange highlight. She was like my guardian angel."

Marcquelle, 37, says he now has a mission is to "pay it forward" as was Lisa's wish.

And also to let her know that he has the money for her, if she wants it back!
