Former Corrie star stunned by kindness of "Aldi angel" who paid for shopping in supermarket queue

The kindness of a shopper at an Aldi supermarket has stunned a former Coronation Street star who has praised his "guardian angel".

Actor Marcquelle Ward has told of how a woman behind him in the queue at Aldi in Heywood stepped forward to pay for half of his shopping when he came a cropper with the Apple Pay system at the tills.

He now wants to highlight the act of kindness of the woman who he knew only as "Lisa" behind him in the queue at the Bradshaw Street store.

Marcquelle, who played Mitch on Corrie and has won critical acclaim in West End musical Cats, told the MEN: "She really just made my day and gave me faith in humanity. I want her to be recognised because it was so kind of her."

He shared the extraordinary act of kindness with friends in a post on Facebook.

In the post he said: "Nicest thing that's ever happened to me shopping just happened to me this morning.

"So I was in my local Aldi and when I got to the till after everything had been scanned I realised I didn't have my wallet.

"I didn't panic because I had my phone which has got Apple Pay on right?

"But the amount of shopping was over the tap limit in one go so I asked if we could pay it in half. So that's pay up to the limit and then pay again the rest.

"So as the guy behind the till and I were taking stuff off the first part of the bill then this woman comes forward.

"She was like 'I'll pay it" and I was like "I have got the money, I can just split the shopping up to pay on my card." She was like: "Don't worry about it, I will just pay it"."

Marcquelle, who first shot to fame on ITV's musical drama Britannia High, asked for the woman's bank details so he could transfer the money back to her but she was having none of it.

He continues: "She was like it's fine, don't worry, just pay it forward." I was like what's your social media accounts, anything, at least give me your name.

"She was called Lisa, short hair with an orange highlight. She was like my guardian angel."

Marcquelle, 37, says his mission is to now "pay it forward" as was Lisa's wish.

And also to let her know that he has the money if she wants it back!

He said: "All she wanted was for me to pay it forward so that is my mission now.

"Plus I have the money on me just in case I bump into her again. Thank you Lisa I am still in awe of what just happened."

Friends of Marcquelle praised the kind lady, with one saying in response to the post: "Thank god still great people out there", while another added: "Lovely to read something so positive like this."

A third commented: "It’s the random acts of kindness that we don’t see everyday that keep us as a society going."
