Former Corrie star reveals new career after announcing engagement

Coronation Street star Georgia May Foote has wished fans a happy new year while reflecting on a life-changing 2021.

Not only did the actress and former Strictly Come Dancing finalist get engaged to her beau Kris Evans, the star also launched a successful second career.

Georgia, from Bury, qualified as a nail technician last year and launched GMF Nails.

Sharing a smiling photo taken just moments before she got engaged to musician Kris on holiday in Gran Canaria, she wrote: "Happy New Year!

"Can’t believe moments after this picture we got engaged.

"2021 was a good year. From qualifying as a nail technician and having a successful side huddle @gmfnails.

"To ending the year filming a great show I can’t wait for you to see in 2022."

She added: "But most of all I found happiness.

"I pushed myself out of my comfort zone, stopped caring what people thought, made some amazing friends in the salon, still smashed acting and became someone’s forever.

"May 2022 bring you all even more love and luck xx"

Georgia signed off: "G x ( Mrs E To Be )"

Georgia, 30, shared her engagement news with a jubilant photo of herself and Kris sitting side by side as she showed her engagement ring to the camera.

"Mrs Evans to be," she wrote.

"Of course I am still crying.

"@krisevansmusic I love you beyond words and I am honoured you have chosen me."

In 2019 Georgia revealed she had found love with Kris who was a finalist on Britain's Got Talent with his former band The Mend in 2012.

Georgia, who played Katy Armstrong in Corrie, qualified as a nail technician during her 'downtime' from acting and to help combat her struggle with anxiety.

But she quashed talk that she was quitting acting after starring in The Outpost, an American fantasy-adventure drama which is screened on The CW in the United States and Amazon and Syfy UK here in the UK.

"I have been an actress for 22 years of my 30 year life and I wouldn't change it for the world. And I never will," she wrote on her Instagram back in May.

She continued: "I have had people asking if I am quitting acting, if my work has dried up, if I am skint. "The answer to all of the above is HELL NO.

"I have just filmed the job of my dreams as Falista on The Outpost, how could I ever ever turn my back on the thing i love more than life?

"I will NEVER give up acting but let me tell you why i am now doing nails in my downtime from acting.

"I have struggled with anxiety for many years. As an actress we receive a lot of rejection, followed by massive celebrations.

"Then ran off our feet, to long periods of nothing.

"I have learnt this 'nothing' is when my self esteem drops the most. I lose confidence and I get bloody sad."

She added: "As a creative person who loves having her nails done, I thought 'why not fill my days making other people feel good, pushing my artistic side and feeling productive?'

"I have no shame to put pride aside to put my mental health first. And neither should anyone else or even feel judged for doing so.

"So yes. I am Georgia May Foote the actress still chasing her dreams. But I am also Georgia May Foote who does bloody amazing nails and has big plans on the side."

Georgia played Katy in Coronation Street from 2010 to 2015 and some viewers were unhappy with the decision to kill off the character, ending a possible return to the soap.

In 2017 her character was killed off in a car accident after moving to Portugal and her ex Chesney Brown brought their son Joseph back to the cobbles.
