Former Corrie star Katie McGlynn heading to Strictly Come Dancing

Former Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn is heading to the dancefloor of Strictly Come Dancing - after confirming live on BBC Breakfast that she is the seventh star for the 2021 series.

Rochdale actress Katie, who recently joined rival soap Hollyoaks, says she is "super chuffed" to be joining the new series this autumn.

She said: "It's such a brilliant show to be a part of, I'm so grateful, the glitz and the glamour, I'm super chuffed I'm joining it this year."

"It's a pinch me moment doing it, I'm so excited to get going with it."

Katie, 28, was the latest star to be announced for the 2021 show - which will see the return of 15 contestants with professional dance partners when the showbiz extravaganza returns to screens this autumn.

She added: "I'm not a dancer by the way! I've always admired dancers and I've always wanted to be one but I did drama rather than that, that's the path I took. I describe myself as Bambi on ice."

And on BBC Breakfast it was swiftly followed by the shock announcement of the eighth - when Breakfast host Dan Walker sprung a surprise on everybody - including his co-host Louise Minchin - that he's the eighth star to be confirmed.

The first three celebrities to be revealed were McFly star Tom Fletcher, Peep Show comic Robert Webb and TV presenter AJ Odudu.

They were swiftly followed by the announcement of Great British Bake Off star John Whaite, who will compete in Strictly's first all-male dance pairing in this year's show.

The fifth star confirmed at the weekend was CBBC's Rhys Stephenson, while on Monday Dragon's Den businesswoman Sara Davies was revealed as the sixth star after appearing on ITV's Good Morning Britain.

The show will return to the BBC with a new judging line up for 2021, after show favourite Anton Du Beke will swap the dancefloor for the panel as he replaces Bruno Tonioli to deliver his verdicts on the dancers.
