Former Corrie star Deborah McAndrew plagued by disgusting smell for months

Deborah McAndrew has complained about a "disgusting" smell lingering near her home.

The Coronation Street star, who played Angie Freeman for four years in the 90s, said there hasn't been a day in the past six months where she hasn't had to wrinkle her nose over the foul stench.

The Environment Agency found two permit breaches at landfill near Newcastle, Silverdale and Keele, which are believed to have resulted in the smell.

Deborah took to Twitter in reply to local protest group Stop The Stink, writing: "The stink was strong this morning as I walked my dog.

"TBH I can't remember a day in the past 6 months or more when I couldn't smell this disgusting landfill around Newcastle, Silverdale, and Keele."

It's not the first time the acting talent has spoken out about the issue.

Deborah retweeted local MP Aaron Bell after he revealed that he'd met with Prime Minister Boris Johnson to discuss the issue.

"Pleased to see our MP working for the health and wellbeing of his constituents," she commended.

And Deborah, who is also the co-founder of the Claybody Theatre, recently told followers that she'd received the AstraZeneca jab, and urged others to follow suit.

"For the record - I've had my jab - #AstraZeneca. I had no doubts whatsoever about having it - for myself, for my community, my country, and for the world," she tweeted.

"It's as big as that. The process was simple and efficient, and I felt euphoric afterwards. Thank you #science."

She appeared as Angie on the Cobbles across two stints in the 90s, first appearing in 1990 and leaving for good in 1998.

Angie had left Weatherfield in 1993 for Mexico, before reappearing three years down the line.
