Former Coronation Street star's gran hidden after care home staff shut blinds during visit

An ex- Coronation Street star has shared heartbreaking footage of care home staff shutting blinds in her face as she visited her isolated grandmother.

Leandra Ashton was visiting her dementia -stricken grandmother, Tina Thornborough, when the meeting turned sour.

Tina, 97, 'didn't look well' according to Leandra's mum, Ylenia Angeli.

Ylenia told a carer of her worry and said, 'lips are blue and breathing is too fast' the Mirror reports.

The care worker snapped back and said, 'ring up on Monday' because she 'isn't a manager'.

Ylenia was still concerned for her mother's health, and continued to let the nurse know she was not looking well.

As she continued to express her worries, the carer interrupted her and took away from her mother.

Soon after, she shut the blinds as her daughter begged repeatedly "hang on a minute don't take her away, don't take her away".

The Mirror has contacted Northgate House care home for comment.

It comes as Ylenia was was arrested after trying to take her mum out of the care home.

Retired nurse Ylenia hadn't seen her mother for nine months because of the pandemic and wanted to take her home.

It was later confirmed that the arrest by Humberside Police had been withdrawn and that Ylenia had been able to return home.

Leandra appeared on Good Morning Britain last month, where she explained to hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid that their worry was that her gran was in isolation.

Revealing that they hadn't been able to communicate with her at all, Leandra said: "Our worry now is that she's in isolation because, of course, if we were able to take her home that wouldn't have been necessary.

"She would have been with us.

"So we're really worried she's going to deteriorate further because she probably won't be taken out of bed and for someone of her age with her dementia.

"We're just really concerned about what's going to happen to her.

"I think what's really, really important to emphasise is that we are not alone in this situation.

"Here are thousands and thousands and thousands of families in our position."
