Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas says Lucy Mecklenburgh threw up when he proposed

As far as romantic proposals go, former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas pulled out all the stops.

But the magic moment came to an abrupt end when his now-fiancee Lucy Mecklenburgh had a rather unexpected reaction.

The couple got engaged during a picture perfect trip to the Italian cliffside village of Positano on the Amalfi Coast.

Revealing all on the moment he popped the question, Ryan told OK! Magazine : "Lucy kept me waiting before she said yes… then she threw up!"

The Manchester actor and his ex-TOWIE star beau announced the happy news with photos of the pair embracing over an al fresco dinner for two, with idyllic views of the coast on Instagram.

Whilst Ryan, who played Corrie favourite Jason Grimshaw, simply wrote: "Welcome to the family," Lucy showed off her sparkler of an engagement ring, cheered: "I said YES."

The husband and wife to be met in 2017 whilst filming survival show Celebrity Island With Bear Grylls.

On what makes their relationship work so well, Lucy, 27, credits her other half for being 'spontaneous' whilst she is quite 'rigid'.

She told the publication: "There's never a dull moment with him and I think I needed someone like that in my life.

"We never stop laughing when we’re together."

Lucy and Ryan open up about romantic engagement in this week's OK! mag (OK!/Catherine Harbour)

The couple have already thought about potential plans to start a family, despite Ryan, who is already father to daughter Scarlett who he shares with ex partner Tina O’Brien, previously admitting that he couldn't see himself having more children.

The 35-year-old has, however, had a change of heart and has said he "definitely wants" children with Lucy but we shouldn't expect the pitter patter of tiny feet in the very near future.
