A former Conservative MP who quit the Commons after being accused of sexual harassment and Class A drug use has died aged 59.
David Warburton was pronounced dead after paramedics rushed to his flat in Chelsea, west London last Tuesday.
The father-of-two had served as the Member of Parliament for Somerset and Frome from 2015 to 2023.
His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Former MP Stephen Danczuk told The Sun: "It's such sad news. He had really got back on track after having a difficult time in politics.
Things were really on the up for him
"He had got back on track and was doing very well in business, running an energy company. He turned his life back around really, it's incredibly sad news.
"I met him for drinks in Belgravia a few months ago. He was really doing well. He had a great team around him. Things were really on the up for him."
In April 2022, Warburton had the whip withdrawn after a series of images, audio recordings and messages emerged implicating him in unwanted advances to women.
Another picture showed Mr Warburton wearing casual clothes next to what appeared to be lines of cocaine.
Following the revelations, the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) launched an investigation into Mr Warburton.
He denied harassment, although he admitted taking cocaine, a Class A drug, after drinking “incredibly potent” whisky.
Mr Warburton later revealed he had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital for stress and shock.
Three sexual misconduct allegations were initially upheld by the ICGS. However, this decision was overturned by the Independent Expert Panel on appeal.
Mr Warburton resigned his seat in June 2023 after claiming he had been denied a fair hearing by the ICGS, which prevented him from "speaking out" while it assessed the allegations.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 10.47am on Tuesday, August 26 to an address at Chelsea Crescent, Sands End.
“A man in his 50s was found dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. His death is being treated as unexpected but not suspicious.”
