Former Commanders QB Carson Wentz signs with Rams

The wait for Carson Wentz’s new team is over. OK, maybe there was no wait, but Wentz does have a new home.

On Tuesday, Aaron Wilson revealed the Los Angeles Rams had signed Wentz.

The Rams are without starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, but, per Rams Wire, head coach Sean McVay expects Stafford to return to the starting lineup in Week 11. The Rams are on a bye in Week 10.

Wentz is expected to be Stafford’s primary backup after waiving Brett Rypien on Tuesday. Rypien struggled in his only start for Los Angeles, completing just 13 of 28 passes for 130 yards and turning the ball over twice.

Wentz was released by Washington in February after one season with the team. Wentz appeared in eight games, making seven starts for the Commanders in 2022, sporting a 2-5 record as the starting quarterback. He completed 62.3% of his passes for 1,755 yards with 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

In seven NFL seasons with the Eagles, Colts and Commanders, Wentz has a career completion percentage of 62.6%, with 22,129 passing yards, 151 touchdowns and 66 interceptions.
