The site of a former Clydebank leisure centre will be transformed into a 116-property housing development after the land was sold for £5.6 million.
The West Dunbartonshire Council-owned Playdrome 8.5 acre site was marketed late last year after the building was demolished, with Miller Homes chosen as the preferred bidder to regenerate an “important part of Clydebank”.

During the Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development committee this week it was confirmed that the developer is looking to build a mixture of three-bedroom homes which face the canal.
During the meeting Labour councillor Martin Rooney said: “I think more housing is a great idea, it brings in extra council tax and also it helps regenerate an important part of Clydebank.
“This is a fantastic report we have in front of us because of the speed at which we are moving forward. The Clydebank Development Framework was approved by this committee only two months ago and included provision for 334 homes within the area.
“This brings forward plans for 116-homes in the area. Miller Homes have built loads of high quality properties right across West Dunbartonshire and hopefully they will take an interest in developing the other housing opportunities around the town and the waterfront.”
Council officers will liaise with Miller Homes throughout to ensure the design proposal is aligned with the Local Development Plan and place making ambitions including the Clydebank Framework.
Following the meeting, councillor Iain McLaren, convener of Infrastructure, Regeneration and Economic Development said: “I am pleased to see that this extensive site in Clydebank Town Centre will be put to good use once more.
“This will have a positive impact on the town centre and fits in with the work the council is doing to regenerate Clydebank, including our recently agreed Clydebank Framework.”
The proposals are subject to a planning application which will be submitted to the council at a later date.
