Prosecutors have dropped charges against former Perth City councillor Jim Adamos who was accused of electoral fraud and unlawfully gaining a benefit.

Mr Adamos was charged last year after a long-running inquiry into the City of Perth.

It was alleged on three occasions in December 2015 and August 2018 Mr Adamos fraudulently gained a benefit totalling $630.95.

It was further alleged that in August 2017 he signed a "sham lease" for a home office in East Perth in order to enrol people who would not have otherwise been eligible to vote in City of Perth elections.

Mr Adamos vehemently denied the allegations and on Tuesday, when he appeared briefly in court, prosecutors said a decision had been made to discontinue the case.

The electoral fraud charges, and related charges against two of Mr Adamos's relatives, were discontinued in December.

Outside the court Mr Adamos said he was happy to have the charges dropped.

"Today just marks the end of an incredibly stressful and difficult ordeal," he said.

"While I'm happy to be exonerated the past few months, and particularly years, have had a huge impact on my health, my wellbeing, my family and my reputation.

"It's also placed considerable strain on my family, my wife and my two young sons.

"I thank them and my broader family for their support all throughout this process, it's been quite traumatic.

"I just really want to go back to be at home with my family."
