Rashard Davis selected No. 1 overall in XFL skill position draft

There will be plenty of players with Kansas City Chiefs ties scattered throughout the XFL when its revival launches in 2020.

Several of those players will be selected by teams over the course of the next two days during the XFL’s player draft. The draft is split into multiple phases where teams can select players at skill positions, offensive line, defensive front and defensive backs. The first phase, where teams select skill position players, began today.

The No. 1 overall selection in this phase of the draft, wide receiver Rashard Davis, was with the Chiefs during the 2019 offseason.

Davis first worked out for Kansas City late during the 2018 season. During the 2019 offseason, he was among the tryout players that the Chiefs brought in to their rookie minicamp. Davis later signed with the Chiefs following the conclusion of minicamp.

Kansas City had a talented wide receiver group during the preseason. In turn, Davis was pitted against some tough competition. He made some plays and even contributed in the return game on special teams. When push came to shove, Davis was cut in favor of others during 53-man roster cuts in September.

In the XFL’s draft, Davis was selected by the DC Defenders and will be playing alongside quarterback Cardale Jones. Davis’ reputation as a speed threat will likely help the Defenders stretch the field.
