Former Chiefs receiver Jeremy Maclin announced his retirement from the NFL on Sunday.
He announced it in person at his wife’s baby shower, but he also took to his own social media to confirm his retirement from the NFL. He also said he’d post a longer retirement letter at a later date.
Maclin joined the NFL as a member of the Eagles through the 2009 NFL draft. He played college football at the University of Missouri. Maclin’s relationship with Andy Reid eventually led him to Kansas City where he signed five-year contract in 2015. He was a favorite target of Alex Smith during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Maclin only made it two years into that contract before he was released in 2017. He joined the Ravens during the 2017 season which would ultimately be his last season in the NFL.
Here is the video of Maclin’s announcement with transcription down below:
“We’re standing here right now, and everybody else in this room is standing here right now because of football. Because of what I do for a living and what I did for living. I wouldn’t necessarily know a lot of people in here if it wasn’t for football. In some strange way, football has either made us closer or it has developed the relationship that I have with you guys. So something that I want to share with everybody is that I’m retired from the NFL. I’m done. So I’m done, but I think it’s so cool that I was able to do something to help me develop these relationships.”
Maclin finishes his NFL career with nine seasons under his belt, 112 starts, 514 receptions, 6,835 yards, and 49 touchdowns.
Congratulations on a tremendous career!
