Former Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez featured on NFL Network’s ‘A Football Life’

The ninth season of NFL Network’s documentary series, “A Football Life,” begins on Friday, Sept. 20th and it starts off by covering former Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Gonzalez.

The profile on Gonzalez will feature sitdown interviews with friends, family and former members of the Chiefs organization. That group includes QB Trent Green, QB Elvis Grbac, TE Jason Dunn, HC Dick Vermeil, HC Herm Edwards and GM Carl Peterson. The following topics are just among the few covered in the hour-long feature:

  • Life as a two-sport athlete at UC Berkley
  • The 1997 NFL Draft where he was selected 13th overall by the Chiefs
  • Playoff losses with the Chiefs in 1997 and 2003
  • The scenario surrounding his trade to the Atlanta Falcons.

He was always open,” Green says of Gonzalez. “He was like, ‘If there is somebody on me, just throw it up high.’ He loved the ball up high.

It covers both the good times with the Chiefs and the bad times.

“I think Tony was torn, he really was, because he had a big impact in that city,” Edwards said of Gonzalez trade request from Kansas City. “He was a Chief. He was a guy that was drafted there and most people never thought that he would leave there.”

Check out the preview at the top of the page and be sure to tune in on Friday evening during the premiere. You can stream it live on NFL Network at 9:00 p.m. CT on fuboTV (try it for free).
