Former Chiefs OT Cam Erving to sign with Cowboys

A former player for the Kansas City Chiefs has found a new home in free agency.

Offensive lineman Cameron Erving has agreed to terms with the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year contract. The deal is currently pending a physical according to Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlken.

Erving joined the Chiefs as a trade acquisition ahead of the 2017 NFL season. It was one of the first moves that Brett Veach made after taking over as general manager in Kansas City. The Chiefs sent their 2018 fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in order to acquire Erving.

Over the course of his career in Kansas City, Erving was a versatile piece along the offensive line, filling in as needed at multiple positions. He made 25 starts in total for the Chiefs over three seasons, with starts at left tackle, right guard and left guard.

Unfortunately for Kansas City, the deadline to qualify for the compensatory pick formula has already passed. They won’t be earning any compensatory picks for Erving should his contract qualify. Locked On Cowboys host Marcus Mosher seems to believe he’ll be nothing more than a camp body.

While most of Chiefs Kingdom was critical of Erving’s play on the field, there’s no denying that he was an A-plus teammate. Erving was the ultimate team player, willing to do whatever the team asked of him. He was always one of the first players to hurry to the aid of Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes if there was a late hit or any sort of extracurriculars on the field. He also was always there to celebrate the successes of his teammates. For those reasons, he’ll be missed in Kansas City.
