Former Chiefs DT Junior Siavii arrested on federal firearms charges

Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Junior Siavii is facing federal firearms charges after being Tasered twice during an arrest.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, Siavii was charged with three counts of being an unlawful drug user in possession of firearms. The release alleges that he was in possession of illegal drugs and loaded firearms multiple times in 2019.

Siavii remained in federal custody pending a detention hearing, which had not been scheduled as of Aug. 26.

Siavii, whose full name is Saousoalii P. Siavii Jr., was a second-round pick by the Chiefs in 2004 out of Oregon. His professional career was derailed by knee injuries. He only lasted two seasons with the Chiefs before being waived ahead of the start 2006 season. Siavii has been out of football since 2011.

In the most recent incident, which occurred Aug. 24 and is detailed in the U.S. Attorney’s Office release, Siavii was confronted by officers at the scene of a stolen vehicle investigation. Siavii failed to comply with officers’ commands and actively resisted arrest. At one point, he dropped a loaded Smith and Wesson 9 mm pistol. The struggle went on for some time as officers tried unsuccessfully to subdue Siavii with Tasers. They were finally able to put Siavii in a neck restraint and handcuff him. According to the release, officers found ammunition, 5.2 grams of methamphetamine, 12.2 grams of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia Siavii’s backpack.

The release also details two other arrests this month in which Siavii was allegedly in possession of illegal drugs and firearms.
