Former Chiefs CB Patrick Surtain selected for 2021 Senior Bowl Hall of Fame

A former member of the Kansas City Chiefs is being recognized as one of the best NFL players to play in the annual college All-Star game known as the Senior Bowl.

Former Chiefs CB Patrick Surtain has been selected as one of five players to be inducted into the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame. Surtain will join former Colts WR Reggie Wayne, former 49ers OL Joe Staley, former Jaguars RB Fred Taylor and current Saints DL Cam Jordan as a member the 2021 Senior Bowl Hall of Fame class.

“We are proud to announce an incredible class of inductees,” Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy said in a press release. “Each of these men was a premier player in the National Football League at his respective position and all have the credentials to one day end up in Canton (home of Pro Football Hall of Fame). We are honored to bring this group back to Mobile to celebrate their great NFL careers.”

Surtain played with the Chiefs at the end of his career after spending the first seven seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He appeared in 55 games while starting 49 while in Kansas City. During his four seasons with the Chiefs, Surtain had 194 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss, one sack, 28 passes defended, and eight interceptions.

Here’s a look at what Surtain had to say about his selection in the Senior Bowl’s press release:

“It’s a tremendous honor to have been selected for the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame. I just think about all the great players that have played in this prestigious game and to be recognized amongst the best is truly humbling. The Senior Bowl put a spotlight on me and the University of Southern Mississippi, which propelled me to have a great professional career. I am truly thankful.”

The Senior Bowl Hall of Fame was established in 1988. Surtain will join several former Chiefs coaches and players who’ve already been inducted such as Marty Schottenheimer, Derrick Thomas, Albert Lewis, Christian Okoye, Larry Johnson, Tamba Hali and Rodney Hudson.
