Former Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland receiving interest from Bears

Could the Kansas City Chiefs-Chicago Bears pipeline continue this offseason?

A new report from Chicago Tribune beat writer Brad Biggs suggests that it might. According to Biggs, the Bears are “window shopping” and taking a look at veteran free agent cornerbacks to strengthen their offseason competition at the position. One of those players is former Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland, who remains unsigned.

Breeland recently took a visit with another NFC North team, the Minnesota Vikings, but left without a contract. There has also been mention of a possible return to Kansas City, though that seems less likely as interest grows around the free-agent cornerback.

The 29-year-old cornerback first joined the Chiefs as a free agent ahead of the 2019 NFL season, though the team showed interest in 2018 as well. Breeland seems to be interested in a long-term commitment from a team after playing the last two seasons on one-year deals. With the Chiefs, he started 26-of-27 possible games, recording 86 total tackles, four interceptions, 17 passes defended, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries in Kansas City. He recorded interceptions in both Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LV.

The Bears have had a strong interest in free agents from Kansas City ever since former Chiefs OC Matt Nagy took over as head coach of the team. This offseason, the Bears added RB Damien Williams after he was let go by Kansas City.
