Former Chelsea wonderkid issues farewell message on Twitter as next transfer move is revealed

Dynel Simeu has become the latest academy prospect to leave Chelsea this summer.

It's been somewhat of a clearout at Stamford Bridge since the transfer window opened with Fikayo Tomori and Marc Guehi both leaving permanently to join AC Milan and Crystal Palace respectively.

Meanwhile, Izzy Brown left for Preston North End, Jamal Blackman was released at the end of his contract and Billy Gilmour has joined Norwich City on a season-long loan.

And now Simeu - who has been at Chelsea since 2015 - has taken to social media to announce his departure and bid farewell to the coaching staff and teammates.

"Unfortunately it’s time to say my goodbyes to @chelseafc," he wrote on Twitter. "I have spent 6 great years at the club. Grown from a young boy to a man.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the Chelsea staff for giving me a platform to become a professional footballer. Teammates who have become very good friends.

"Supporters who have followed my journey.

"However, I am ready to begin a new challenge elsewhere."

The 19-year-old central defender actually left Chelsea on July 1 after turning down an improved deal to stay at Stamford Bridge in the hope of securing a better pathway to first-team football elsewhere.

And his next move has already been revealed.

As reported by Hampshire Live, Southampton are closing in on signing Simeu, making him their third acquisition of the summer.
