Former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o 'in hospital after his car hit by bus'

Former Barcelona and Chelsea star Samuel Eto'o is reportedly in hospital after his car was struck by a bus in his native Cameroon.

The 39-year-old is believed to have been travelling to Douala - the largest city in the country - when the accident happened.

Eto'o attended a wedding over the weekend and was returning home, while pictures have emerged showing the huge damage the collision caused to the front of his vehicle.

While Eto'o is not believed to be injured, his family have told the BBC they are awaiting an update from doctors before he can be discharged from hospital.

The report adds there were no deaths as the result of the crash, during which the bus hit two cars, while the driver responsible has been apprehended by the police.

Eto'o retired from playing last year with 427 goals for club and country to his name, most recently featuring for Qatar SC.

The four-time African Player of the Year plundered 130 goals in five seasons at Barcelona, helping Pep Guardiola's side win the treble in 2009.

Eto'o then moved to Inter Milan in a deal which saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic move the other way and won the treble for the second year running.

To this day, he remains the only player to win back-to-back trebles, while he won a total of 11 major honours during his time at Inter, Barca and Real, where he came through the ranks.

Eto'o also had brief spells with Chelsea and Everton before moving to teams in Italy, Turkey and Qatar.

Eto'o also enjoyed a prestigious career for his country, scoring 56 goals in 118 games and winning the African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002.

He remains the tournament's top scorer with 18 goals, four clear of his nearest rival.
