Former Chelsea striker annoyed with 'hypocritical' Jamie Carragher over Liverpool legend's Hudson-Odoi and Hazard comments

Jamie Carragher has been labelled a hypocrite by former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The former Holland international hit out at the Liverpool legend over comments he made about Callum Hudson-Odoi and Eden Hazard.

Carragher recently spoke on why he believes Hudson-Odoi should reject Chelsea's offer of a new contract in order to ensure he's playing regular football next season - something the winger hasn't done under Maurizio Sarri this term.

The big Liverpool v Chelsea quiz - how much can you remember of a bitter, modern rivalry?

He told Sky Sports: "If I was Hudson-Odoi, I wouldn't sign. He's in a strong position. I wouldn't sign to get more money or cause drama. He wants to play and I love the courage he's show.

"Youngsters sign big long contracts and you wonder, where the career is going but he's willing to say, "I want to go".

"I would use the last year of my contract as leverage. He wants to play and he wants to show Chelsea what he can do. I've got great respect with what this lad is doing.

"He should play as much next season and if they show him faith, he stays at his boyhood club."

Meanwhile, Carragher had said that Hazard should play for Real Madrid before he retires - meaning he should accept an approach from the Spanish side.

But Carragher did say that he advised Luis Suarez to reject Arsenal and wait for the Spanish giants to call when a similar situation arose at Liverpool in 2013.

He said: "I don't think you can ever stop players moving to Real Madrid and Barcelona. I think most players see that as the pinnacle, and it's happened at both Manchester United and Liverpool.

Liverpool told key Eden Hazard decision could hand Reds advantage over Chelsea

"It's sad as I love watching him week in, week out. But I almost feel like Hazard has to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"I think of Luis Suarez when he was at Liverpool. I wanted him to stay, but I knew in my head. This was something I spoke about with Steven Gerrard when he nearly went to Arsenal.

"We actually said, 'You're too good for Arsenal. If you're going to leave, you have to go to Barcelona'. I think Hazard is one of the best players in the world, and the best players in the world play for your Madrids and your Barcelonas."

Hasselbaink, who scored 88 goals in 177 games for Chelsea, took exception to Carragher's comments, saying that he shouldn't advise players to leave the club.

He told bwin :  "I have seen Jamie Carragher’s comments that Hudson-Odoi shouldn’t sign a new contract and that Hazard is too good to stay at Chelsea. I was annoyed because I thought they were very hypocritical.

"Carragher didn’t have that opinion when Suarez or Coutinho wanted to move to Barcelona or when Sterling wanted to move to Manchester City.

"Hudson-Odoi is a homegrown talent and he will not be loved more at another club than he would be at Chelsea. Jamie Carragher would have never left Liverpool and I’m not sure if he should advise youngsters to do the opposite."
