Former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has offered up his verdict on Frank Lampard after a tough run for the Blues.
Lampard had to endure a transfer ban before his first season with Chelsea as manager and that hindered his chance to make an imprint on the side.
A quiet January window has also contributed to a settled but lacking in quality team which is struggling to maintain a top-four spot.
Wright-Phillips, who played for Chelsea from 2005 to 2008, has now defended Lampard after a bad run of just one win in five league games which has seen fifth-placed Tottenham close the gap between the two clubs to just one point.
"When Frank took the job the majority would have said we'd be happy if Chelsea finish in the top ten or the top eight even," Wright-Philips told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
"He has come out and managed to keep them fourth for most of the season so for me I think he has done pretty well.
"He could have done better if the transfers went his way. He's done what he was supposed to do. The former loan players have been brought in and done well up to a certain point."
Former Newcastle United and West Ham player Kieron Dyer also added his thoughts on Lampard.
"Chelsea didn't back their manager in January and now Frank is taking the whole brunt of everything. It's totally wrong."
