Former Chelsea man warns Harry Kane that he must change his game to avoid future injury problems

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane should carry the blame for his recent injury and needs to change his playing style to avoid further issues.

That is the view of former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino, who believes Kane was reckless in the match and should not have been making the challenge that resulted in his injury.

Kane was forced off in the second half of the 1-0 Champions League triumph over Manchester City, where Son Heung-Min scored the only goal of the game, and Mauricio Pochettino admitted he may be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

That issues the Lilywhites with a significant blow ahead of their second leg against Pep Guardiola’s side next week and for their remaining Premier League games in the fight to secure a top-four finish.

Mauricio Pochettino gives Spurs fans the news they didn't want to hear about Harry Kane

With the latest injury expected to be an ankle problem, it will be the fifth time he has been ruled out with a similar problem and Cascarino has told Kane to make changes to his approach to avoid future issues.

“Harry Kane appeared to suffer quite a bad ankle injury in a challenge with Fabian Delph near the touchline but it was a challenge that the Tottenham player should not have been making,” he wrote in the Times.

“It’s fine for a striker to move across to the flanks to block clearances by full backs – it was one of my responsibilities throughout my career, after all – but Kane should not be lunging in while doing that.

Why Mauricio Pochettino is right to fear Harry Kane's season is over after latest ankle injury

“He should just be covering and standing up rather than jumping in.

“He has a history of ankle problems and if he continues to make challenges like that he will be suffering a couple of long injury absences each season.”

A full assessment on Kane’s injury will be made today but Tottenham are expecting to be without the England captain when they tackle Huddersfield Town in the Premier League this weekend.
