Former Chelsea man makes bizarre Dani Ceballos claim ahead of Arsenal's clash against Liverpool

Arsenal fans should hope that Dani Ceballos does not put in the same high level of performances as the one he displayed against Burnley, former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino has claimed.

The Spanish midfielder stole the show on his first competitive start for the Gunners on Saturday as he bagged a pair of assists in the 2-1 win at the Emirates and helped create another goal, which was disallowed for offside.

The performance led to some Arsenal fans christening Ceballos the new Santi Cazorla, but Cascarino says Gooners should ease off on the praise if they want to hold onto him beyond this season.

With the 23-year-old only joining from Real Madrid on a season-long loan, the former Republic of Ireland international has said Arsenal supporters should hope that he doesn’t have a good season in red and white so that they can sign him permanently next summer.

Unai Emery: We never want to play against Liverpool

Never mind that Arsenal fans would probably quite like to see their team do well right now and avoid missing out on Champions League football for yet another season.

“Dani Ceballos impressed me for Arsenal against Burnley,” Cascarino wrote in his column for The Times reflecting on the weekend’s action.

“He has a bit of everything: tenacity, technical ability, and he wore the shirt as if he was an Arsenal player from 15 years ago. He showed what he is about.

“He is on loan so Arsenal will have to hope he doesn't do too well, meaning they can't sign him. He is part of a side that Unai Emery is slowly moulding to his methodology.”
