Former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend has revealed that he believes that Arsenal's acquisition of David Luiz would be a good move for both clubs.
The Blues defender looks set to be on his way to the Emirates Stadium, after a reported fee of £8m was agreed between the two clubs.
Luiz is believed to have pushed for the move over the past week, with football.london understanding that the 32-year-old has been disruptive around the training ground in order to force a move.
The Brazilian is reported to be now undergoing a medical ahead of completing the deadline day transfer, and Townsend thinks that the defender will be a good signing for Arsenal.
"There's always a number where you go 'I think we need to do that [and sell]' and he's 32," he told Sky Sports the Debate show.
"What you're getting with David Luiz is he's played here for a number of years, has tonnes of Premier League games under his belt, he's won trophies, has a winning mentality and Arsenal need a bit of that.
"He may not be the one that they thought they were going to get, but I don't think that's a bad deal. If Arsenal get him I think he'd be a good addition."
Arsenal are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements following the departure of club captain Laurent Koscielny to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, with other targets including Daniele Rugani, Dayot Upamecano and Samuel Umtiti.
Celtic full back Kieran Tierney is also set to join Unai Emery's men and is currently undergoing a medical following an agreement being reached with the Scottish Champions.
