Former Chelsea man Eden Hazard handed injury blow at Real Madrid

Former Chelsea man Eden Hazard's debut season at Real Madrid could be cut short due to injury.

The Belgian was taken off in the second half of the club's 1-0 league defeat against Levante on Saturday and has since undergone assessments in order to identify the problem.

Real Madrid have now confirmed via their official website that the player has suffered a hairline fracture in his ankle, ruling him out for around two months.

That means that the midfielder will miss Real's Champions League round of-16 tie with Manchester City with the first leg taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening.

Hazard completed a move to Spain from Chelsea during last summer's transfer window after a long protracted transfer saga in a deal that could rise from a reported £88 million to £130 million with add-ons.

However, the 29-year-old has had an injury-hit first season with the club meaning that he has made just 10 La Liga appearances so far this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

Hazard has been drafted back into the starting 11 for the past two games after coming back from injury, but now faces more time on the sidelines as he recovers from his latest setback.

The Belgian scored 110 goals and provided 92 assists in 352 appearances for Chelsea before moving to Real Madrid.
