Former Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri guides Juventus to ninth consecutive Serie A title

Juventus have clinched the Serie A title for a ninth consecutive season after beating Sampdoria on Sunday night.

The Bianconeri, managed by former Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri, continued their dominance of Italian football which has seen them win the domestic title every year since 2011 with a 2-0 win in Turin.

Juve were handed the opportunity to clinch the title in midweek only to fall to surprise defeat away to relegation-threatened Udinese.

But despite seeing Paulo Dybala, Danilo and Matthijs de Ligt all forced off with injuries, goals from Cristiano Ronaldo sealed victory which put them seven points clear of Inter Milan and confirmed them as champions once again.

Ronaldo struck home his 31st goal of the season when Miralem Pjanic rolled across a free-kick for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner to fire into the far top corner in the first half.

Federico Bernardeschi then sealed it by scoring his first Serie A goal in nearly two years, knocking in a rebound from Ronaldo's effort midway through the second half.

It is the first league title Sarri has won in his managerial career and in his first season at the Allianz Stadium, following on from his Europa League success with Chelsea in 2019.

Sarri becomes the third Juventus coach to win a title during their nine-year hold on the Scudetto, with Antonio Conte beginning the streak in 2011 and Massimiliano Allegri continuing the run before leaving at the end of last season.
