Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has resigned as Marseille boss after a transfer row over the deadline day acquisition of Olivier Ntcham from Celtic.
The Portuguese is reported to have offered his resignation to the club on Tuesday morning after the 24-year-old completed a loan move to France on Monday from the Scottish champions but Villas-Boas claims he didn't want the midfielder.
Marseille have since said that Villas-Boas has been suspended from his role after his outburst, deeming the comments "unacceptable" and the manager is expected to be sacked imminently.
In his press conference earlier on Tuesday, Villas Boas told shocked journalists: "This is a decision not made by me.
"He's a player I specifically said no to. I learned about it when I woke up and went on the OM website.
"I submitted my resignation, saying that I didn't agree with the sporting policy.
"Management didn't give me final say on things. I don't want money, I just want to go.
"The club has been through two or three years of just doing anything on transfers and I don't want to accept that.
"Now I am focused on Lens. For me they are the team of the year.
"Our preparation won't be ideal but we'll just keep going until the management tells me to leave."
According to reports in France, goalkeeper Steve Mandanda was the only player in the Marseille squad who was informed of Villas Boas' resignation before he went public in the press conference.
It comes after a tumultuous few days for Marseille who are ninth in Ligue 1 after just nine wins in 20 matches this season.
Fans stormed the club's training ground over the weekend in protest against club officials.
It led to the game with Rennes being postponed.
Villas-Boas spent a year at Chelsea in 2011/12 and managed Spurs in 2012/13.
