Former Chelsea and Germany star Michael Ballack's son, 18, dies in quad-bike crash

The son of former Chelsea and Germany midfielder Michael Ballack has died in a tragic quad crash, according to reports.

Emilio, who was 18, is said to have been involved in the accident in Portugal and died at around 2am on Thursday.

Reports from Portugal state that the incident happened in Troia, south of Lisbon, near to a house the ex-international captain bought some years ago.

Further details are yet unknown, but firefighters were said to have been at the scene.

Emilio is one of three children the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich player had with Simone Lambe, his long-term girlfriend he married in July 2008.

He was born in 2002, a year after their eldest son, Louis, and three years before their youngest, Jordi.

Forty-four-year-old Ballack represented Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern and the Blues during a career that spanned 17 years.

He represented Germany 98 times and was part of the team that reached the World Cup final in 2002.
