Former Chargers OL Matt Slauson announces his retirement from the NFL

Matt Slauson announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday. Slauson was drafted in the sixth round of the 2009 NFL draft. Slauson sustained a back injury during week five this past year that forced him to land on the injured reserve list with the Colts. That was his first season with Indianapolis. The prior two he had played with the Chargers.

Many think that Slauson will make a great offensive line coach. He was supposedly the unsung hero of the Colts offensive line even after his injury in 2018. Slauson oversaw the pass protection and it showed with the Colts. Here’s what Anthony Lynn had to say about him last offseason:

“They didn’t just pick up an offensive lineman, they picked up another coach as well,” Chargers coach Anthony Lynn told Colts.com during the offseason. “That’s what he brings to your offensive line group. He’ll be working with young guys, helping young guys and at the same time can go out and execute at a high level.”

Though his time may be done in between the lines, it sounds like Slauson will return to football sooner than later.
