Former Celtics forward Guerschon Yabusele agrees to terms with Nanjing

The Boston Celtics felt as if there was still an NBA player “somewhere” in big man Guerschon Yabusele before waiving the former fan favorite.

However, whether because of lack of interest from the other 29 teams (or a better, even a more lucrative, opportunity elsewhere), Yabu has agreed to terms with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Nanjing Tongxi Monkey Kings.

The report of Yabusele’s deal comes from Sportando’s Emiliano Carchia.

Selected with the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of France, Yabusele played a minor role for the Celtics, mostly appearing in spot duty and garbage time minutes.

Averaging 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game for his career, his numbers were anything but stellar but the Dancing Bear as he’s often been called — for his impressive footwork — became a hit in Boston for his “dab and arrow” celebrations as well as his agreeability.

Despite his footwork and ability to play impact defense, he doesn’t appear to have the requisite athleticism for his position nor is he an efficient three-point shooter, a double-whammy. However, players in the CBA aren’t as athletic as their NBA counterparts, so there’s potential for him to carve out a nice role — or even career — there.
