Former Celtic youth signs for East Kilbride Thistle on loan from Livingston in signing coup

EK Thistle have pulled off a signing coup by securing former Celtic youth Dean Quinn on loan from Livingston.

The 19-year-old, who started his career with the Hoops at the age of eight, featured in a 3-1 defeat to Yoker last midweek and in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with St Anthony’s.

Boss Iain Diack said: “He's got a great grounding.

"Dean was full-time at Celtic for two years until last season.

"But he's still young, he's only 19, so they want him to get out and get game time, starting at our level and moving up.

"He's more than capable of playing at this level and I'm sure he'll push on even more.

"I've used my contacts to get young players out getting games here and we are grateful that Livingston trust us to take Dean and develop him over the next six months or so until the end of the season.

"He was at Celtic from the age of eight until he was 18, so he's been coached all the way through there, through the academy and then full-time.

"Although he was getting into the reserves, he wasn't getting the game time and he was more in the 18s.

"He wanted to progress his career and try and get his career started, if you like, at Livingston."

Former Sauchie gaffer Diack, who took the helm at the Showpark in March, is hoping Quinn's capture can be the start of a fantastic working relationship with the West Lothian side.

He added: "I'm looking to bring the standard up at the club.

"And that's the reputation I want the club to have, to be able to nurture players.

"We don't have massive amounts of money, but we can help clubs develop players and with Dean coming in, he's the first one we've managed to go.

"If Dean does well, maybe Livingston will trust us with a couple more next season.

"It's about trying to build relationships with other clubs now and that can be our way of getting well-coached players in and continuing their development with us."
