Former Celtic youth leaves Hamilton Accies for Partick Thistle

Hamilton Accies have reached an agreement with Partick Thistle to allow Ciaran McKenna to leave New Douglas Park.

The former Celtic youth defender today joined the Jags on a two-year deal from Accies, subject to SFA clearance.

McKenna only joined Accies last year and went on to make just eight appearances for Brian Rice’s side following his move from League One Falkirk.

Hamilton said in a statement: "Ciaran leaves the club with our best wishes as he seeks more playing time."

Having started his career at Celtic, McKenna played for the Duke New Devils in North Carolina during a US scholarship and joined the Bairns on his return to Scotland.

A knee cartilage injury hit his spell at Accies, but he'll now be looking forward to a new challenge in League One.

His new boss Ian McCall told the Jags website: "He very much fits the profile of the type of player I have signed in the last few years.

"His versatility is an added bonus."

McKenna will have to wait a couple of months until his debut, with Thistle not kicking off until October in the Betfred League Cup.
