Former Celtic target reveals deep depression after dream Parkhead move collapsed

Former Celtic target Anco Jansen has opened up on the depression that made him take time out from the game after a move to Parkhead fell-through.

The 30-year-old, now plying his trade at FC Emmen, nearly moved to Glasgow seven years ago when Neil Lennon tried to get him on loan with an option to buy him later.

But his club at the time, De Graafschap, demanded extra money after initially agreeing a loan fee and Celtic scrapped the deal, leaving Jansen distraught.

And he revealed the experience of missing out on Premiership football affected him so much, he took a month out from playing football.

He said: "I had a great season at De Graafschap - I scored 24 goals and had eight assists in 36 games and Celtic came in for me.

"But De Graafschap didn't want to cooperate with Celtic and made it impossible for the loan deal to go through.

"When you are in a Dutch second division team and you get the chance to move to a club like Celtic and the deal doesn't work out

through no fault of your own, then, of course, you are going to be depressed.

"I was literally sick and depressed after it. I took a month off from football and refused to play for them.

"I have no regrets though.

"Football is an emotional game for me and sometimes I react differently from other players, but I can't change the way I am."
