Former Celtic star on Hearts' 'radar' after January speculation

Falkirk star Calvin Miller is on Hearts’ radar after an outstanding campaign under John McGlynn, according to a new report

Derek McInnes is set to tool up again this summer as he looks to go one better in the title race next season and have a crack at the Champions League.

The Jambos were keen on the 28-year-old, who is entering the final 12 months of his Falkirk deal, in January but backed off after landing Kazakh international Islam Chesnokov, according to the Daily Record.

However, despite that signing, Hearts remain interested in Miller, who finished with the most assists in the Premiership last season and chipped in with nine goals to help the Bairns secure a top-six finish on their top-flight return.

Miller’s form also drew interest from Celtic, who considered bringing him back to Parkhead, where he came through the youth ranks.

Former Hoops hero Charlie Mulgrew revealed during the January window: “I know that Celtic were trying to get Calvin Miller. He thought he was in the door. His agent got a call two days before [the deadline] saying it’s ready to be done, they want him, and he was delighted to go back to Celtic.

“At 8.30pm on the night of the window [closing], it was done. Obviously, Celtic had plates spinning the way players do. I don’t know where he was [in that pecking order], whether he was second choice. He thought he was getting a dream move back to Celtic and it didn’t happen. He got told at 8.30pm that the deal was off.”

McGlynn, however, played down the extent of the move from the Celtic side, insisting there was no direct contact between the clubs.

He said at the time: “There was no communication between Celtic and Falkirk. None whatsoever. Celtic have never spoken to anyone at Falkirk.”
