Former Celtic star Marc Crosas opens up on terrifying moment he was robbed at gunpoint

Marc Crosas has lifted the lid on a terrifying incident in which he was robbed at gunpoint while in his car in Mexico.

The former Celtic midfielder, signed from Barcelona , spent three years in Scotland before transferring to Russia and then Mexico, where he featured for several clubs.

He now stays in the Central American country after taking out Mexican citizenship five years ago and is one of the main TV football pundits.

But the 31-year-old was stunned when he was at the centre of a horrific incident when he was driving in Mexico City.

Crosas said: "After eight years of living in Mexico, yesterday afternoon I felt scared for the first time.

"I was mugged at gunpoint in traffic. It was 20 seconds of terror.

"But it does not change anything about the way I feel for my country. I believe it is still improving every day and I don't want to look at this negatively."

And Crosas, who was unhurt in the incident, was offered support by several former colleagues.

His ex-Santos Laguna team mate, former USA international Herculez Gomez said: "The important thing is you are fine and you weren't hurt.

"We are all thinking of you."

Crosas made more than 50 appearances for the Hoops and netted only one goal, but that strike against St Mirren was voted goal of the season for 2008/09.

He joined in the summer of 2008 on a four-year contract for an initial fee of £415,000 that would rise to £1.6milliom depending on appearances.
