Former Celtic star delivers Brendan Rodgers to Arsenal verdict that will concern Leicester fans

Chris Sutton believes Leicester City fans should be worried by Brendan Rodgers’ comments on his link to the vacant Arsenal manager’s job.

The Northern Irishman is one of the early favourites to take over from Unai Emery at Arsenal following the Spaniard’s sacking.

Former Gunners midfielder Freddie Ljungberg has been placed in charge as interim head coach as the club begins the search for a new manager, and Rodgers is one of the names being touted to take over at the Emirates Stadium.

The 46-year-old is currently flying high at Leicester, with the Foxes the closest challengers to leaders Liverpool in the Premier League.

They cut the gap on the Reds to eight points with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Everton on Sunday, with VAR ruling in favour of the Foxes after overturning the decision to rule Kelechi Iheanacho’s stoppage time winner out for offside.

But, when asked after the game about a clause in his contract that could see the door open for Arsenal, Rodgers didn’t rule it out.

"Listen, there probably is [a clause] in most manager’s contracts,” he told Sky Sports.

“It is all hypothetical, with these types of situations.

“Most managers’ contracts will have something in that, but for me, my only concentration is on Leicester.”

Those comments may well leave some Leicester fans concerned, and BBC and BT Sport pundit Sutton feels those worries would be justified.

“Brendan has a clause he said...I’d be worried if I was a Leicester fan...” he tweeted.

Under interim boss Ljungberg, Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw by Norwich City on Sunday as their wait for a win continues.

The Gunners will hope to end their eight-game winless streak on Thursday when they host Brighton & Hove Albion.
