Former Celtic scout backs Rangers reconstruction masterplan as a 'game changer' for Scottish football

Agent and former Celtic scout David Moss has hailed Rangers' reconstruction proposal as a "game changer" that will help develop the stars of the future.

The Ibrox club have proposed a 14-14-18 set-up that would see Colt teams introduced into the bottom division.

Both Celtic and Rangers under-21 sides would face up to grizzled veterans every week although a limit would be set that would prevent promotion beyond the Championship.

And Moss, who manages the careers of several top kids, reckons the situation will be a massive boost to their chances of a top flight career.

He told the Daily Mail : “'Parents call me now and say there is going to be no reserve-team football next season.

“They're asking me - 'What is going to happen to my son's development?'"

“The fact is that parents are really worried about what is going to happen to their kids now.

“That's why I think the Colts proposal from Rangers is fantastic.

“It gives the best young players something to really strive for. It gives them men's football as an incentive.

“For me, this Colts idea is a game changer.”

“'I have top young players like Scott Robertson and Jack Aitchison at Celtic on the verge of a breakthrough and good young players like Kai Kennedy and Dapo Mebude at Rangers.

“But it is very difficult for any young player to go from an academy into first-team football.

“And it's even more difficult now because Celtic are going for 10 In A Row and Rangers are trying to stop them."

And Moss reckons it's not just the big two who will benefit from the plan if it comes off.

Clubs in the bottom league will receive a significant cash injection in terms of a payment and a commitment to purchase 200 tickets for each away game.

He said: "There is a danger now of Scottish football dying on its feet.

"If it isn't dying a slow death then it's certainly ticking along going nowhere fast.

"There is a perfect opportunity to make Scottish football better now."
