Former Celtic kid set to sign for Albion Rovers on loan from East Kilbride

Former Celtic youth star Lewis Kidd is set to sign a loan deal at Albion Rovers from Lowland League club East Kilbride.

With the Lowland League season scrapped and a points per game system put in place, the K-Park club are keen to get players out playing football and Kidd, 26, is set to sign at Cliftonhill today.

The former Queen of the South and Falkirk full-back/midfielder was one of boss Stevie Aitken's first signings at East Kilbride, joining in July, and he follows ex Rangers star Kyle Hutton, who is on loan at Cowdenbeath - who Rovers visit on Saturday in League Two.

East Kilbride had agreed a deal with Annan for striker Craig Malcolm to go out there on loan, but a knee injury put paid to that, and he will instead rest up and recover.

Aitken said: "We've got players out on loan, which we will be keeping an eye on, and that's good.

"Lewis Kidd is away to Albion Rovers, hopefully that will go through today and that will get him some game-time as well, and that's probably all that will go out on loan, but that can change on a daily basis.

"Craig Malcolm was looking to go out on loan, we had agreed a deal with Annan, but there had been a reaction to his knee that he had a wee problem with, so we thought it would be best to just leave it and let him rest, so that one fell through at the last minute.

"I think our last game was in December sometime, the last time we got together was the start of January, and it is a long, long way since we last played a game or played together. That is frustrating but it is what it is, and I'm sure we'll come back stronger."
