Former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers attracted Newcastle interest as he makes 'loyalty' pledge

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he has rejected two approaches to leave Leicester City since joining the Foxes from Celtic.

His King Power Stadium side have been stuck in a Premier League rut this season but had new life injected into their campaign with a 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Monday. Questions have been asked over Rodgers' future and he has now claimed that he has said no to leaving Leicester twice.

A bitter taste is still present in the mouths of some Celtic Park fans after Rodgers left them for England midway through the 2018/19 season but The Athletic claims Arsenal had considered him as boss before appointing Mikel Arteta, with Newcastle the other club last year. He has no doubts over his future and does not need any reassurance from chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha after displaying his commitment: "I spoke to Top before the game, but Top has been over for other games that we’ve been losing.

"I think that he and his family and the staff have always been super supportive of me. They understand the challenges we’ve had over the summer, understood the difficulties and where I’m coming from, but they know they have the total respect from me.

“So, I don’t need Top or anyone to sit me down. They trust I can do the job. They know my loyalty to here, because I stayed when maybe I could have left. On two occasions.

“But that doesn’t mean that they owe me anything. I want to do it for the club. I want to do it for them. I want to do for the supporters. And they trust me to do that and if I don’t they’ll tell me.”
